Dear John,
When I took over the leadership at NIAC in August 2018, I knew that this responsibility placed on me would come with great opportunities and likewise steep challenges. But nothing could have prepared me for the coordinated and hostile barrage of misinformation and disinformation attacks on our organization, community, and supporters we experienced late last year. There is nothing more eye-opening and sobering than working with law enforcement to deal with death threats.
The good news is that, not only are we still standing, we are still the organized Iranian-American voice fighting back against broad sanctions and militarism that harm ordinary Iranians, advocating for policies that support Iranian self-determination rather than outside intervention, and working every single day to protect Iranian-American civil rights at home.
But while we have overcome a vicious and grotesque smear campaign to wipe us off the field, there is still a lot of work to do. NIAC is only able to compete with voices like AIPAC, FDD, and others eager to escalate tensions thanks to resources from supporters like you. Without your grassroots donations, we simply cannot march forward. When we started this month, we were $200,000 short of our mid-year revenue goal. But in the past week, our donors have stepped up to contribute nearly half of our goal, $89,000 – leaving us $111,000 away from meeting our revenue needs before the June 30th mid-year deadline. We must raise this final amount before our June 30th deadline for our work to stay on track, and we will do so if we can count on your support. Donate here to support this work [[link removed]]
65% of NIAC's annual budget comes from individual supporters like yourself who are as generous as possible and believe in our mission, while the remaining 35% comes from prominent American foundations like Ploughshares Fund and Proteus Fund that are committed to peace and civil rights.
I am asking you, personally as the President of the organization, to please do your part and make a gift today. Be as generous as you can - whatever that means to you. But we do need you on our side.
Make your contribution so we can hit our goal [[link removed]]
With sincere appreciation to your continued partnership,
Jamal Abdi, President, NIAC[[link removed]]
