John -
Over the past week, the news cycle has been dominated by coverage of the Canadian wildfires and the resulting smog that migrated to the United States.
Climate disasters like this have become all too familiar for many communities across the U.S. We’re seeing increasing instances of heatwaves, out-of-control wildfires, deadly floods, and many more.
Each and every time, there is something noticeably missing from the media’s coverage: talk of the culprit.
We’re calling on the media to tell the REAL story about the climate crisis and name the villain behind climate destruction: the fossil fuel industry. To ensure they hear us, we need to reach out to as many news outlets as possible — but we can’t accomplish this all on our own. We need supporters from all across the country to lend a hand.
Media plays a vital role in the battle against the climate crisis. It really matters how local and national media sources write about the extreme weather events we’re seeing — and draw a clear connection between these events and the culpability of the fossil fuel industry.
As we continue our fight to end the era of fossil fuels, we need the media to play their part in reporting the truth and holding the powerful accountable. Their ability to apply pressure on our elected officials, fossil fuel industry executives, and other key players is essential to amplifying our calls and validating the mission of our movement.
John, the media has an important job to do to turn the tide of public opinion and help the world avoid the worst of the climate impacts.
Thanks for taking action,
