Resources on Common Tactics ICE Uses to Deceive People and How to Document Raids
Since January 1, IDP has documented a significant uptick in ICE raids in New York, part of ICE's escalated attacks throughout New York City & State on policies protecting immigrants. In response, IDP is releasing a new set of resources on common ICE ruses and how to document raids/interactions with ICE. Check out the following from IDP by visiting immdefense.org/ice-ruses!
- For the last seven years, IDP has tracked reports of ICE raids throughout New York State. Throughout that time, we've tracked and analyzed different trends and tactics in ICE enforcement, including their commonly used ruses, like pretending to be local police. Check out IDP's ICE Ruses Primer for information about ruses generally, why ICE uses them, common ICE lies, and how individuals can invoke their rights.
- In addition to the ICE Ruses Primer, IDP has also released an ICE ruses flyer, "Ways That ICE Pretends to be Local Police." Check it out here to learn more about common lies ICE tells when pretending to be local police, including lies told in person and over the phone. Available here in English and Spanish.
- In the past few years, as many people have become aware of ICE's brutal enforcement tactics, and even more of us carry smartphones, videos of interactions with ICE have become much more frequent in the media. In response to the uptick in enforcement over the last few weeks, and because we felt that there was a dearth of information on how to safely document ICE interactions, IDP has released a set of infographics including Know Your Rights Basics for Documenting ICE, How to Document ICE Raids, and Things Not to Forget While Documenting ICE. Available in both English and Spanish.
- Not new, but still relevant and of use in documenting interactions with ICE, is IDP's Home Raids Poster, which can be hung in the home as a reminder of your rights, what to say, and what to document in case of an ICE raid. Available on our website in 7 languages.
