John,

This Pride month, here at Vote Mama we are celebrating LGBTQIA+ individuals and their leadership in our communities -- shedding light on injustices that are rooted in homophobia, transphobia, patriarchy, and bigotry -- and promoting calls to action so that we can resist hate and fight for equality with arms linked.

Since today is LGBTQIA+ Equal Pay Awareness Day, we are taking a moment to discuss the wage gap— an intersectional issue that refers to the discrepancies of wages based on gender, sexuality, race, and other factors.

When we hear about the wage gap, we often hear of it in terms of women vs. men, but it’s important to understand how this economic issue impacts other marginalized groups as well.

Through data, it is clear that the wage gap disproportionately impacts LGBTQIA+ individuals compared to other groups—including queer men:

- LGBTQIA+ workers earn 89 cents for every dollar earned in a week by the typical worker in the United States.
- Median earnings for LGBTQIA+ women workers, including cisgender and transgender women, amount to 79% of that of the average male worker. This means LGBTQ+ women have to work an additional 55 days into the following year to earn as much as the average man working full time.
- While women are estimated to earn 83 cents to every dollar earned by men, Black women earned just 57 cents to the dollar, and Latina women earned just 49 cents.

A core part of our mission here at Vote Mama is to empower our supporters to take direct action, which is why we are asking you today to sign this important petition calling on Congress to fix the pay gap— and to account for intersectional disparities in doing so.

We are committed to electing Democratic moms who will stand up against hate and champion equal pay -- and we're counting on your voice in this fight: Will you sign our petition in support of LGBTQAI+ equal pay and fair wages for all?
