Hi Friend,

Please join us on Tuesday, June 20 from 2:00- 3:15 PM ET for a virtual Solidarity Encounter on the Movement for Community-Led Agroecology!

The Solidarity Encounter will be in English and Spanish with simultaneous interpretation provided.

This Solidarity Encounter will be a dialogue between Ana de Ita Rubio, Centro de Estudios para el Cambio en el Campo Mexicano (CECCAM)/ Research Center for Change in Rural Mexico, and Gabriela Linares Sosa, Unión de la Organización de la Sierra Juárez de Oaxaca (UNOSJO)/ Organization of the Sierra Juarez of Oaxaca). It will be facilitated by Jovanna Garcia Soto, Senior Solidarity Program Officer for Latin America at Grassroots International.

The encounter will be focused on agroecology, a practice of food production grounded in justice, environmental sustainability, and ancestral wisdom. It will be dialogue between Ana de Ita Rubio of the Research Center for Rural Change in Mexico, who will discuss agroecology and its significance for social movements broadly, and Gabriela Linares Sosa, who will offer a specific example of grassroots organizing for agroecological food production led by the Zapotec Indigenous people’s movement in Mexico. The speakers will look at the role of political formation and the emergence of agroecology schools in the long-term success of agroecology projects, and will also highlight the ways in which agroecology offers a real and lasting solution to the climate crisis.

This Solidarity Encounter, the second in our 2023 series, follows, thematically, the first encounter on Ecological Crisis: False Solutions and Climate Justice Frameworks. The video of the first encounter will be made available in advance to registrants of the second.

Solidarity Encounters are virtual, live forums where donors, funders, prospective supporters, philanthropic advisors, and other members of our community can learn more about the work of Grassroots International and our frontline partners, and can build community with one another. The Solidarity Encounters are one of several donor and community education/organizing programs that Grassroots International offers.

Our Solidarity Encounters are interactive and one of the goals is community-building. While the event will be recorded, we hope you will come at the time the event is being offered, keep your video, and participate actively when invited to do so!

More information and the registration link are here. We look forward to seeing you on June 20!

In solidarity,

Maggie (Sasha) Russell-Ciardi
Managing Director of Donor Engagement
