During a recent trip to Turkey, our Unto® team member met Eren*. Eren’s family-owned rental car business is right across the street from where our local church partners set up a camp to serve those who are displaced. More than 7,000 people who’ve lost everything now live in tents in the camp. They’re receiving daily meals. People like you are also ensuring they have basic hygiene items.




As Eren’s family experienced the kindness of Jesus, they offered to let our church partners extend the camp into their parking lot. They have very little business right now, so they wanted to help in any way they could. Our team member also had the opportunity to build a relationship with his family. On his last night in the city, Eren drove him to the airport. In those few moments of quiet, Erin opened up.


The night of the earthquake, Eren had been out with four of his best friends. At the end of the evening, he encouraged them to stay at his family’s home for the night. Instead, they each chose to go home. Then the earthquake hit.


Eren’s family was spared. But as he went around to each of his friend’s homes, he could hear people calling out from inside the rubble. One by one he pulled his best friends and his girlfriend out — but none had survived.


Four weeks after the blast, Eren recounted his story to our team member for the first time. “I feel like I’ve lost everything,” he said.


Eren has seen Christians actively serving. He has heard the message of Jesus. He felt safe in that moment to share his grief. Local church partners will continue to follow up with him and his family and ensure they have what they need during this difficult time.
