With two open U.S. Senate seats, Georgia is absolutely critical in our
strategy to Flip the Senate this November, John.

That’s why I’m thrilled to announce Democracy for America is endorsing two
progressive champions running for Senate in Georgia: Reverend Raphael
Warnock and Teresa Tomlinson.

Rev. Raphael Warnock is running for retired Republican Senator Johnny
Isakson’s seat. He’s the Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. attended, and has spent his life fighting for
freedom, truth, justice, and peace. Stacey Abrams endorsed him on day one
of his campaign, and he chaired her New Georgia Project which has
registered more than 300,000 new voters – mostly people of color – across
Georgia. Rev. Warnock also delivered the benediction at President Obama’s
second inauguration, led a sit-in and was arrested at the Georgia State
Capitol for pressing state legislators to accept the expansion of Medicaid
in 2014, and hosted an interfaith meeting on climate change, featuring Al
Gore and Rev. William Barber II last year. There’s no doubt he’ll be a
fierce leader on the issues that impact Georgia’s most vulnerable
communities in the Senate.

Teresa Tomlinson is running to send Republican Senator David Perdue
packing. In 2011, she was elected the first female Mayor of Columbus,
Georgia – the second largest city in Georgia with a minority-majority
community of over 200,000 – and later became the first Mayor of Columbus
to be reelected in over 50 years in 2014. As Columbus Public Safety
Director, she earned a National Security Secret Clearance with the
Department of Defense that she still holds to this day. Growing up, Teresa
watched her mother climb her way out of generational poverty, and she’s
committed to fighting for ALL Georgians, unlike her right-wing incumbent
opponent.

With two competitive Senate seats up for grabs in Georgia, we know these
progressive candidates are the best fit for the job. But if they’re going
to beat the odds and defeat the Trump-backed GOP establishment nine months
from now, they need an unstoppable grassroots army behind them.
