Tonight, I spoke with the Indianapolis City-County Council urging them to support my proposals that will help improve our public safety, strengthen the police department and reduce gun violence.
These policies are supported by the vast majority of Indianapolis residents. Our plan will:
✅ Ban AR-15s and similar military-style assault weapons
✅ Halt permitless and concealed carry policies in Marion County
✅ Assist local organizations with establishing gun-free zones
✅ Approve $20 million in investments in our city's mental health and violence prevention services
While these policies cannot be enacted while the state’s preemption law restricts the local authority, I will continue to fight for the people of Indianapolis to have the right to craft their own laws on this critical issue.
We are not powerless to take on the NRA and the gun lobby. We have the power to take action.
