I’ll be honest, asking for contributions is probably my least favorite part of running for office — but it’s necessary to keep building up a successful campaign, especially in a district as competitive as ours.

The end of this month is our next Federal Election Commission (FEC) quarterly public filing deadline of the year, and I want to tell you a little bit about what that means and why it’s so important. Here’s what you need to know: Every three months, we’re required to report all of our fundraising progress to the FEC. Once we do, our fundraising numbers become public for anyone to see. And in competitive districts like ours, we know Republicans are waiting to hunt through our report for any signs of weakness.

If it looks like our campaign doesn’t have widespread grassroots support, Republicans and their dark money donors will immediately start pouring money into our district to try to win here in Rhode Island next year.

That’s why it’s so important that we have a fundraising boom during the last few weeks of June. We need the support of grassroots donors like you to hit all of our fundraising benchmarks and have a strong fundraising report when our numbers go public.
