John,

Once again, the Trump Administration is proposing new rules that would expand the ability for faith-based organizations to discriminate against transgender people under the guise of “religious freedom.” This extremist plan will hurt the LGBTQ community, of which trans people are especially vulnerable.

If passed, this bill will not only allow faith-based organizations that receive taxpayer money--money that you and all members of the LGBTQ community have taken out of our paychecks each week like everyone else--to turn people away for being trans, but they wouldn’t even have to give people a referral elsewhere so they can get the help they desperately need. So when trans people come to them needing help, these faith-based orgs can just kick them to the curb with nowhere else to go. We believe in the golden rule around here, and this is certainly not “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

Even more egregious, eight different federal agencies are to adopt these new rules at once as a part of a broad, sweeping attack on our community. We can’t, and won’t stand by as the trans community is targeted like this.

We believe that religious freedom is important, but everyone should be able to access government-funded services without being deprived of either their religious freedom or civil rights. And no one should ever be forced to choose between accessing services and who they are.

Together, we can oppose these dangerous and discriminatory regulations.

Submit a letter today calling on the Trump Administration to abandon these harmful plans.
