About the program

California’s public K–12 school system may be entering a long period of declining enrollment. Districts with declining enrollment face financial pressures, as state funding declines along with the number of students they serve. Lower enrollment also has important implications for the state budget. PPIC researcher Paul Warren will outline the findings of a new report on declining enrollment, and a panel of experts will offer state and local perspectives.

This event is supported with funding from the PPIC Corporate Circle and the PPIC Donor Circle.

Participants

Renee Arkus, executive director of fiscal services, Long Beach Unified School District
Sara Bachez, assistant executive director of governmental relations, California Association of School Business Officials
Claudia Davis, associate superintendent, Calaveras County Office of Education
Mike Fine, chief executive officer, Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team
Deborah Gonzalez, vice president of government affairs and chief data officer, PPIC
Julien Lafortune, research fellow, PPIC
