Our team just got word that the vote to censure me and fine me $16 million could be brought to the House floor as early as this afternoon.
I’m going to be transparent: with this GOP majority, this vote could actually pass. That’s why I’m personally reaching out to you before I head to the House to defend myself against this blatant act of political retaliation — one that is meant to silence anyone willing to stand up to Donald Trump and his supporters to defend the rule of law from their constant barrage of lies.

It is no coincidence that the GOP is bringing this vote up the day after Trump’s arrest and arraignment on 37 federal counts. They are only loyal to a corrupt and deceitful man, and they will do whatever they can to discredit me, and distract from Trump’s legal peril.
Let me be clear — this vote is blatant retaliation against me and anyone who is willing to stand up to Trump, with the full support of McCarthy. MAGA Republicans hate how effective I have been at holding them accountable, and they are doing everything they can to smear me and prevent me from serving in the Senate.
John, I am immensely proud of my efforts to hold Trump accountable. I warned that if Trump was not held accountable in the first impeachment, he would go on to endanger our national security and democracy in even worse ways in the future — AND HE DID. I only wish Republicans had listened, and our country had been able to avoid the damage Trump went on to inflict and continues to inflict. Instead, they are doubling down on support for him and going after me. But I won’t back down. Not now. Not ever.
Together, we will continue to fight for what is right and true and just, no matter what obstacles MAGA Republicans put in our way.
