When we formed the Progressive Change Campaign Committee in 2009, we
wanted to do things differently as we worked to elect great candidates and
advocate for bold policies.
One thing we tested was asking people to chip in just $3 toward our work.
We found that this empowered more people to donate. Some folks gave more,
but we got mail saying, “I’m on a fixed income. I can only afford $3. But
you asked for that, and I believe in your mission. So here it is.”
Senator Elizabeth Warren famously recalls how we told her about those
notes when she was first deciding to run for U.S. Senate. She thinks about
the people behind those donations every day.
During the 2012 election, we saw an email from Barack Obama asking for $3.
We did a double take. We had changed political culture…to empower more
everyday people!
This trend setting also applies to our broader work. Bloomberg News
reported in 2015, "The phrase 'debt-free college' was hardly present in
the national political lexicon until the Progressive Change Campaign
Committee launched a campaign in January to push Democrats to support the
idea."
We did the same for expanding Social Security benefits. More recently, we
worked to popularize the billionaire’s tax, which President Biden has
since talked about many times.
We were among the first to endorse political unknowns like Jamie Raskin,
Katie Porter, Pramila Jayapal, and Maxwell Frost -- all popular
progressives in Congress today. And in 2022, we got in early for Democrats
who went 5 for 5 defeating insurrectionist Secretary of State candidates
who wanted to mis-count our votes in swing states.
Long story short, we're proud of our record of getting new things started
and having them go mainstream. Winning pivotal elections. Catapulting new
ideas into the conversation.
Can you help this work continue in 2023-2024 as we work to advance popular
ideas and elect bold Democrats to save democracy? [ [link removed] ]When you and
thousands of others chip in $3 or more, it goes a long way. (You can also
[ [link removed] ]make it monthly so we can plan with predictability.)

Thanks for being a bold progressive.
