Dear john,
I wanted to reach out and tell you that I'm frustrated.
It's been two weeks since we averted a catastrophic default on our economy, and now we can't get anything done in the House because of Conservative in-fighting. While it appears the House Majority has reached some sort of deal where we can return to legislating, it has now decided to prioritize bills on kitchen appliances.
The two bills put forth will stifle scientific investigation into health hazards and create a precedent that endangers our children from health and safety hazards, as well as prevent the Department of Energy (DOE) from instituting an efficiency standard that will save consumers money and cut energy costs.
While Congress can - and should - be focusing on the most pressing issues facing Americans today - immigration reform, gun violence, women's healthcare, climate change, economic inequality, and the preservation and protection of our democracy - my conservative colleagues are prioritizing kitchen appliances.
I wanted to know: Do you think Congress should focus on more pressing issues?
