Childcare is one of the largest expenses facing millions of working families across the country. Half of new parents spend at least 20% of their income on childcare. Single parents earning an average wage spend about 35% of their income. And as childcare costs outpace even inflation [[link removed]] while wages remain stagnant, the problem is only going to get worse.

This is a solvable problem. The United States is one of the richest countries in the world, yet the average wealthy democracy spends 28 times more than we do to provide citizens with quality, affordable childcare. In Canada, exceptional childcare is available for just $10 a day.

We can and must do better. Tell Congress: We need $10 a day quality childcare. [[link removed]]

Providing families with affordable childcare would have significant benefits for our economy. Parents, particularly mothers who chose to stay home because childcare was too costly, could re-enter the workforce, putting that income back into their communities and boosting local economies. It would create good-paying jobs in childcare and education and more equitable access to resources our young children need to thrive.

It’s time for us to reexamine our priorities when it comes to childcare. By providing quality child care for $10 a day and investing in our children from the earliest stages of their lives, we are helping parents, boosting our economy, and creating a solid foundation for generations to come.
