YWCA Metropolitan Chicago is excited to share our 2023 interactive Illinois KIDS COUNT data dashboard! The dashboard presents disaggregated data about economic security, health, and education at the state and county levels. You can also review key data points from the dashboard, as well as policy recommendations, in the 2023 Executive Summary. Key findings include: -
Economic Security: Child poverty was 15.8% in 2021, but children of color live in poverty at a higher rate than the average, with Black children twice as likely to live in poverty. -
Health: Despite All Kids, which provides healthcare coverage for all children regardless of immigration status, there are still over 3% of children uninsured with children of color experiencing higher uninsured rates. -
Education: In 2022, 87% of students graduated high school in four years. For students who identify as Indigenous, Black, or Latinx, have lower high school graduation rates than the average. Together, this year’s data dashboard and Executive Summary provide tremendous insights into the critical need for systemic transformation across the state. We urge you to share these resources with your representatives, advocates, and community members. These resources are made possible by the generous support of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, as well as our donors. Do you want more resources like this to help ensure Illinois families and children and families can thrive? We need your support! |
