A game-changing study by Embarcadero Institute shows that our urban areas are fast-approving TOO MUCH luxury housing under rules set by the legislature. As we speak, legislators are writing MORE SB 50 lookalike bills to UPZONE and reward MORE luxury housing! Remember that old definition of insanity? Please call-in Sat. Feb. 15, 10-11:30am (info below), to talk reality with GABRIELLE LAYTON, founder of Embarcadero Institute, a rising think-tank. Local control is not the cause. Upzoning is hardly the cure. How do we help Sacramento and the media stop failing — and stop vilifying our 400+ cities? In 2015-16, Sacramento ordered cities to approve 1.5M housing units by 2025. Lots of cities approved loads of housing and SLASHED that 1.5M figure down. But surprisingly out of touch NYT, LAT, WAPO, the Chron, all slam communities for resisting housing and fueling the crisis. Nuh uh, not happening. Gabrielle Layton will discuss with all of us on Saturday: § The big laggers are San Diego, Sacramento, Riverside & Kern counties. Each has a different problem. Ironically, mayors in Sacramento & San Diego love Scott Wiener's one-size-fits-all upzoning forced upon all of us. § 10 big counties will HIT OR BLOW PAST state ordered housing-approvals! But the legislature and Gavin Newsom are hardly giving them a prize. § Almost every county fails to approve enough affordable units. Why? Because Sacramento won’t seriously finance it, instead rewarding luxury developers to build VERY LITTLE affordable.
