This week, GOP legislators unveiled the latest step in their plot to take over NC’s electoral process. Republicans’ attempt to take over the State Board of Elections follows their efforts to rig elections with gerrymandered districts, make it harder for those they disagree with to vote, and make it easier to throw those votes out.

Now, their plan would allow the Republican-controlled General Assembly to decide the outcome of falsely contested elections — potentially throwing election victories to the GOP even if the voters chose differently.

Republicans have tried to illegally seize control of the Board of Elections before, but they’ve been stopped by the Courts. But they’re betting that their new partisan Supreme Court will ignore precedent and give them control over our elections.

The last thing our democracy needs is for our elections to be run by people who want to rig them for partisan gain.
