With summer right around the corner, you might be looking forward to
long days of fun and sun. But for too many kids in
District of Columbia
and across the country, summer means hunger.

That's why summer meal programs - like this one we support
in San Antonio - are crucial. And it's why we're so
grateful for friends like you, who help us connect kids with the food
they need.

These programs aren't only needed in big cities like San
Antonio, as No Kid Hungry Youth Ambassador Grace Frink can attest. She
helps out with summer meal programs in the rural community where she
grew up.

In areas like Grace's where people are spread out over great
distances, providing meals is especially challenging.

"You have to have a vehicle if you want to get anywhere,"
said Grace. So Grace and the rest of her team not only organize the
meals, but get them to kids. No Kid Hungry helps by providing know-how
and by donating equipment, like buses and coolers.

Having the free meals program "means a lot to a lot of
families in our community," Grace explained. "I
can't count the amount of times I saw kids walk in without lunch
or just not eat from a day to day basis."

communities all across the country.
