Your taxes shouldn't be bankrolling climate breakdown.

Right now, the government is weighing up whether to fund a new gas drilling project in coastal Mozambique. This is despite the fact, by their own admission, we’re living in a time of climate emergency. So how can they justify spending taxpayers’ money on fossil fuel projects?

Opening this gas reserve would put us on the fast-track to irreversible climate breakdown. Communities along Mozambique's gas-rich coast are already losing their homes, farmland and fisheries. The scheme might also threaten the UNESCO-listed site of pristine coral reefs, mangroves and seagrass beds.

At the moment Trade Secretary Liz Truss is reviewing the funding proposal. We have a small window of opportunity to change our government’s mind, but it needs as many people as possible to voice their objections.

To make matters worse, the companies behind it plan to ship millions of tons of liquid natural gas halfway around the world for us and other countries to burn – a practice that causes almost twice the greenhouse gas emissions of conventional natural gas.

It makes no sense.

When enough of us speak out, we have the power to make the government sit up and listen. Just look at our recent success in stopping fracking in the UK.
