CFPB’s Chopra discusses ‘junk fee’ efforts with SBC; NAFCU pens letter ahead of HFSC oversight

The Senate Banking Committee (SBC) held its hearing to provide oversight over the CFPB yesterday, discussing many points relevant to the credit union industry. The House Financial Services Committee (HFSC) holds its CFPB oversight hearing today.

Yellen faces NAFCU-sought questions on CDFI failings

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen testified before the House Financial Services Committee Tuesday. While the hearing was focused on the international finance system, NAFCU raised several credit union concerns for the committee to question Yellen about, including the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund.

CUs cover open comments during Reg Committee meeting

NAFCU’s Regulatory Committee met Tuesday and discussed several proposals and issues open for comment, including several from the CFPB and NCUA.

New Reg Alerts cover charitable accounts, TCPA consent revocation

NAFCU sent member credit unions two Regulatory Alerts Tuesday breaking down the NCUA’s recently proposed rule related to charitable donation accounts (CDAs) and the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) proposed rules regarding consumers’ right to revoke consent to receive robocalls and robotexts.

CPI downtrend ‘encouraging,’ but inflation still persistent

On a seasonally-adjusted basis, overall consumer prices rose 0.1 percent in May, with the overall consumer price index (CPI) rising 4.1 percent year-over-year. NAFCU Economist Noah Yosif breaks down the data in a new Macro Data Flash report.
