Only one in four health facilities in Sudan’s capital city are fully operational, leaving millions without access to critical care.

This presents an especially dire crisis for the 219,000 pregnant women in Khartoum who are preparing to give birth at a time when it’s extremely hazardous to seek essential pre-birth care, safe delivery services, or postnatal support.

Even in dangerous conditions, UNFPA-supported midwives are traveling to remote regions to deliver lifesaving care before, during, and after childbirth. But they’re running out of critical resources — fast.

“We have a severe lack of supplies in Khartoum, especially oxytocin and umbilical clips. Although services continue for the time being, we are praying for more supplies to arrive soon,” said Jamila , a midwife working in a UNFPA-supported health center.
