Friend,
With Black History Month underway, I wanted to drop you a quick note.
Black History Month celebrates and honors the lives, legacies, and achievements of African Americans across the great landscape of American history. As the first African American to represent upstate New York in Congress, I'm grateful to all before me who made the sacrifice so my journey would be possible.
Our region has a rich history of African American leaders stretching back centuries -- a history that includes Ulster County abolitionist Sojourner Truth.
In times as divisive as ours, it's important to reflect upon and draw inspiration from the accomplishments of our forebears, and in doing so, renew our hunger for justice and equality.
We stand on the shoulders of giants that came before us. We're indebted to their fortitude and strength, and all Americans can learn from the lessons and trials of their lives.
Please take a moment to reflect on our heritage and walk with the understanding that Black history is American history.
Thank you,
Antonio
