Earlier today, Trump pled not guilty to charges he illegally kept classified documents from his presidency including ones about United States vulnerabilities to attacks and potential responses.

No matter what you feel about the former president, it's not a day for celebration. This is a sad day for our country.

And unfortunately, it's been made worse by far-right leaders who are threatening political violence in the aftermath of these charges — echoes and escalations of the kind of talk we heard before January 6.

Donald Trump Jr's fiancée said "RETRIBUTION IS COMING."

Arizona Republican Congressman Andy Biggs said "We have now reached a war phase."

And Kari Lake threatened armed violence at an event in Georgia.

It's a perilous time for our country. And one thing is for sure: for the sake of our democracy, we have to keep people like Kari Lake out of the Senate. Our ability to heal as a nation is at stake.
