Today, as supporters and campaign surrogates surrounded the courthouse building, Donald Trump entered a Miami courtroom to be formally charged with the indictment announced just a few days ago.
Just moments after entering a plea of “not guilty” to all charges, Trump and his team quickly left the courthouse and made a stop to greet supporters at a nearby restaurant. It’s clear that Trump has every intention to make his case in the court of public opinion instead of the federal court where a grand jury of everyday Americans handed down these charges. And this despite the very serious and egregious obstruction of justice and disregard for our nation’s security detailed in the indictment.
Just hours from now Trump will host his first fundraiser of the 2024 cycle where he will no doubt attempt to attack the legitimacy of this case – an event that is expected to raise at least TWO MILLION DOLLARS for his campaign!
In the weeks and months ahead Trump and the throngs of his campaign surrogates will be relentlessly attacking this case and the other investigations into his criminal behavior: trashing the justice system they once claimed to hold in high regard and perpetuating the falsehood that these investigations are politically motivated.

Last night, reports of former President Trump’s indictment over his mishandling of classified documents spread like wildfire. Trump took to his social media network to inform the world he had been summoned to appear in a Miami district court next Tuesday afternoon.
"I have been summoned to appear at the Federal Courthouse in Miami on Tuesday, at 3 PM," Trump wrote. "I never thought it possible that such a thing could happen to a former President of the United States. […] I AM AN INNOCENT MAN!" [1]
Today, the 49-page federal indictment was unsealed – providing a stark and detailed account of how irresponsibly Trump stored the highly classified and sensitive documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida – and how he tried to thwart investigators. According to the indictment, dozens upon dozens of boxes were found stacked in unsecured rooms throughout the estate, including a ballroom, a bathroom, and other unlocked storage facilities – with some boxes whose contents had spilled open on the floor! In total, Trump is being charged with 37 felony counts relating to his reckless mishandling of some of our nation’s top secret and classified intelligence.
While many familiar Trump enablers like House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Reps. Jim Jordan and Elise Stefanik, and other Republicans have and will continue to rush to Trump’s defense, the need to continue our fight for accountability and justice remain paramount as we seek to protect and strengthen our democracy. Authoritarianism thrives in the absence of accountability – and we cannot allow Republicans to run roughshod over our justice system while they attempt to protect Trump!

This latest indictment follows a previous 34-count indictment in New York state along with two other active investigations: one into Trump’s involvement in the January 6 insurrection and the other regarding Trump’s attempts to interfere with the results of the 2020 Georgia elections.
We must remain vigilant in our efforts to hold Trump accountable for all of his criminal behavior. Trump and his MAGA allies will continue to spread baseless conspiracy theories about each of these investigations, and we must not relent until justice is served in every case.
