Comrades,
In only two days the Denver Public Schools School Board will vote on a proposal to permanently return armed police to DPS middle school and high school campuses – and we need your support to make sure they know that the people of Denver don't want armed cops in our schools!
There is no evidence that the presence of armed police makes schools safer, but quite a lot of evidence proving the opposite. That's why scores of DSA members spoke at last Monday’s Board public comment to explain the harm that police bring to students – but we need your help with one last minute push to make sure our voices are heard!
All you need to do to support is to write an email to the DPS School Board at [email protected] (it will send to all board members' emails) by the morning of June 15th asking them to vote NO on the proposal to bring armed cops back into DPS schools – and to instead invest in proven alternatives that tackle school violence at its roots. No matter your level of connection to DPS, your voice is needed! If you’re not sure what to say, you can check our toolkit here, where we've compiled some of the countless studies which have found that police make schools less safe.
Writing an email will only take 5 minutes of your time but it will go a long way in ensuring that school board members hear the chorus of voices in opposition to putting police in DPS schools. And it ensures that we can fight back against the reactionary, pro-cop rhetoric currently flooding school board emails. So please, join us in the final push to tell the DPS School Board – no guns in schools, no violence in schools and NO COPS IN SCHOOLS.
In solidarity,
Denver DSA
