CLEAN ENERGY INSIDER

REAMS REPORT

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

What a week! Last week, that is. Over 50 Republican leaders from 19 states traveled to Washington, D.C. for the fifth annual CRES and Conservative Energy Network congressional fly-in. Our first goal was to let Congressional Republicans know that conservatives back home want energy and climate policy solutions that are pragmatic: lower energy costs, strengthen the American economy, and decrease global emissions. We brought this message to over 80 offices in two days!
CRES Vice President of Government Affairs Shawn Affolter (left) joins local CEN advocates in a meeting with Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.)

Our teams highlighted a few other messages:
* Foster American innovation with targeted federal investments and incentives, so the United States can lead the world in clean energy development;
* Remove barriers to federal permitting and project development, so we can reduce costs, modernize energy infrastructure, and encourage continued deployment of innovative clean and renewable energy sources
* Increase our manufacturing competitiveness by empowering U.S. industries like steel, cement, concrete, and more to embrace cleaner technologies, so we can continue to lead in global emissions reductions and create American jobs;
* Produce more energy at home and strengthening our domestic mineral supply chain, so we can decrease our dependence on countries like China, increase energy storage capabilities, and bolster our energy security.

Not only were these messages well-received, Congressional members and staff were impressed by the size and knowledge of this network of conservative energy and climate advocates. As CRES’ leader for nearly seven years, I can tell you it warms my heart to see such growth and dedication.

Sincerely,
Heather Reams
CRES President

WHAT CRES IS HEARING
[link removed]
“Energy is foundational to everything we do and America’s ability to harness it, through innovation and entrepreneurship, has completely transformed the human condition. Energy powers our economy and it’s why America is leading in lifting people out of poverty and raising the standard of living. We’ve achieved this while being a leader in emissions reductions and maintaining some of the highest environmental and labor standards in the world. — Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) in a House Committee on Energy and Commerce hearing ([link removed]) titled, “Clean Power Plan 2.0: EPA’s Latest Attack on America’s Electric Reliability.”

WHAT CRES IS SAYING

“Thanks to innovation and a free-market system that rewards efficiency, goods manufactured in the U.S. are 40 percent more carbon-efficient than the world average. The contrast is even more stark when compared to Chinese products, where the average production emissions are more than 300 percent greater than in the United States. Leveraging American innovation, public sector investments, and a reformed regulatory process will unleash American energy more effectively to the benefit of Americans and the world. Thank you to Senators Cramer and Coons for introducing this important legislation, so we can truly harness the United States’ carbon advantage and continue to hold countries like China accountable.” — CRES President Heather Reams on the introduction of the Providing Reliable, Objective, Verifiable Emissions Intensity and Transparency (PROVE IT) Act by Senators Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) and Chris Coons (D-Del.).

“As Republicans who support clean energy solutions to lower global emissions and strengthen our economy, we know there is no better time than now — on the heels of a debt agreement that made important strides toward reforming our federal permitting processes — to advocate for policies that unleash American energy production. Americans want lower energy costs, reduced reliance on foreign countries, and access to reliable, affordable and clean energy; Republicans have the solutions.” — CRES President Heather Reams and Conservative Energy Network CEO John Szoka in an op-ed ([link removed]) published in The Hill highlighting the joint congressional fly-in and Republican clean energy leadership.
