Dear Friend,  Over the last 2 years under the Democrat’s one-party-rule in Washington, they rammed through multiple tax and spend policies that have resulted in higher prices for consumers while exacerbating President Biden’s economic crisis. The Democrat’s tax policies rewarded their political allies – including big corporations and wealthy elites – and hurt hardworking American families. Now with Republicans in the majority in the House, we have been hard at work to deliver policies that get America’s economy back on track. In the last 6 months, I joined my colleagues on the House Ways and Means Committee to conduct multiple field hearings across the country – including right here in Georgia's Third Congressional District in Peachtree City – to hear how Democrat policies have impacted American workers, families, farmers, and small businesses. During those field hearings, folks shared their concerns with today’s chronically high prices, climbing interest rates, labor shortages and supply chain failures. In response to those hearings, Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee recently introduced the American Families and Jobs Act. The legislation is a direct response to needs and concerns voiced by the American people. Republicans remain committed to taking action to deliver relief and create a stronger future for American workers and families – and this signature legislation will help struggling families, grow jobs, and support a stronger economy. Today, the Ways and Means Committee held a mark-up on the American Families and Jobs Act. Included in this economic package is my legislation, the Rural Opportunity Zone and Investment Act. As part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), Opportunity Zones were established to help spur investment in undercapitalized or underserved rural communities and the Rural Opportunity Zone and Investment Act would extend this program. Economically troubled rural areas of the country have seen strong growth thanks to these investments and I am proud to see this important bill included in the overall economic package.
