[ ]J Street [ ]
Friends,
At every turn, Benjamin Netanyahuâs far-right Minister for Diaspora
Affairs Amichai Chikli seems intent on showing utter contempt for
pro-democracy American Jews and Israelis.
Facing pro-democracy protesters in New York, Chikli made a gesture which
many saw as epitomizing the Netanyahu governmentâs contempt for those who
oppose its agenda.
[1]Minister Chikli's gesture toward pro-democracy protesters in New York
He said he was encouraging protesters to smile. You can judge for
yourself.
Facing criticism back in Israel, he lashed out directly at J Street and
others in the pro-democracy movement â hurling complaints of âfake news,â
âphotoshopâ and funding by George Soros. He claimed J Streetâs
pro-democracy movement was âhostileâ to Israel rather than just strongly
opposed to his governmentâs agenda, prompting immediate pushback from the
news anchor and others in the studio: âYou are wrong. J Street is an
important organization in the diaspora.â
Friends, we didnât need photoshop to show the Netanyahu
governmentâs contempt for the pro-democracy movement â or how dangerous it
is to echo right-wing, antisemitic conspiracy theories about George Soros.
What we do need is grassroots support to keep up the fight to protect
democracy and pursue a just, safe and equal future for Israelis and
Palestinians. Together, weâre taking on right-wing extremists and standing
up for our Jewish, democratic values. [ [link removed] ]Can you chip in

Together, weâre making an impact and taking on the Netanyahu governmentâs
anti-democratic agenda on both sides of the Green Line.
Minister Chikliâs Trump-like attacks and accusations of âfake newsâ show
just how threatened he and his fellow right-wingers are by the broad,
determined opposition from Israelis and American Jews â and how eager they
are to launch attacks to deflect from their own appalling record.
In partnership with allies in Israel and the United States, weâre
strengthening the resistance to the anti-democratic judicial âreforms,â
restrictions on religious pluralism, and the governmentâs efforts to
supercharge demolitions, settlements and annexation in the West Bank.
Your support is vital to fuel that work.

J Street is the political home for pro-Israel, pro-peace, pro-democracy
Americans who want Israel to be secure, democratic and the national home of the
Jewish people. Working in American politics and the Jewish community, we
advocate policies that advance shared US and Israeli interests as well as Jewish
and democratic values, leading to a two-state solution to the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
