37 felony counts. That is the number of charges Donald Trump is facing related to his holding of and refusal to return classified government documents after being subpoenaed and lying to the FBI.
This news is no surprise to us. Trump continues to make history, once as the first President to be impeached twice and now as the first President in U.S. history to face criminal charges.
But what is shocking is the response of some extremist lawmakers standing by him despite overwhelming evidence of his withholding and concealing possession of classified documents and false statements.
Just take Marjorie Taylor Greene: Instead of standing by our justice system, she continues to spread conspiracy theories about President Biden to distract from the charges and even went on the House Floor yesterday to call for defunding Special Counsel Jack Smith of the DOJ and the entire Trump investigation.
It’s no secret that I’ve fought against extremists like Marjorie Taylor Greene. I do not believe such dangerous rhetoric and actions can stand, and I won’t stop speaking truth to power now. As long as I serve in Congress, I will continue to stand up for justice and accountability of our lawmakers on the Oversight Committee and beyond — whether that be George Santos, Marjorie Taylor Greene, or Trump himself.
But that also means that I am a target for the far-right because I am not afraid to call them out. My team anticipates a flood of MAGA mega-donors coming after us this cycle, and I need your support to fight back.
Thank you for supporting me and my commitment to accountability.
