Getting Serious About Fixing Our Schools
|
|
In recent years, school boards have become a massive topic of conversation and controversy. What was once a system dedicated to student success and advocacy has now become a politically motivated grandstand.
Finding a way to correct this and prioritize academic achievement is non-negotiable.
While school may be out for the summer, the work on behalf of our state’s 1.4 million public school students is just getting started. Recently, we announced that we are one of three non-profit, pro-liberty organizations that have partnered up to start: Carolinas Academic Leadership Network, or CALN.
CALN is a new initiative that is going to shake up the bureaucratic status quo that is pervasive in our school boards and empower hardworking school board members to bring excellence back to education.
We at the John Locke Foundation, joined by our friends to the south at both the Palmetto Promise Institute and South Carolina Policy Institute are joining forces in this collaborative project to improve student achievement. We aim to do this by providing school board members across the Carolinas with the resources they need to ensure student success.
“School board members are knowledgeable and passionate about education. However, we’ve heard from members looking for professional development areas like management, budgeting, communications, and leadership. CALN will provide opportunities to help both incoming and veteran board members so they can focus on student achievement and excellence in education," said John Locke Foundation CEO, Amy Cooke in a statement to The Carolina Journal.
We are thrilled about the strong impact CALN will have in the development of school board members across the Carolinas and are incredibly optimistic that our students will greatly benefit from their efforts.
Students are the future, and pouring into the next generation should always be top priority.
Stay inspired,
-Bethany
