If running for Durham County Commissioner taught me one thing, it’s that my generation and my community do not have the luxury of waiting around to have a seat at the table – especially a young Muslim candidate like myself.

John, Muslim candidates deserve to have their voices amplified in our democracy, but the barriers are stacked so high against us. Can you please donate $27 to help me break down the obstacles as I run for re-election >> ([link removed])

I started my journey in local politics because of the awful hate crime that claimed the lives of my friends Deah, Yusor, and Razan. It left me shattered and heartbroken knowing that they were murdered for being Muslim, a faith that I share.

They dedicated their lives to serving our communities at home and beyond. But their families encouraged us to not let their legacy die and to continue cherishing them in our work.

That’s why I ran for Durham County Commissioner, to carry the work of my three best friends into serving our community. Now, as I run for re-election, the commitment and love of my friends for the community is guiding me in my fight to dismantle the barriers stacked against Muslims.

But the only way I can win my election is if I have the grassroots support from people like you. Running a campaign isn’t easy and I really need your investment today if I’m going to cross the finish line strong.

John, I’m running for all of the underrepresented Muslims not given a chance to raise their voices. But I need you to donate $27 TODAY if I have any chance of being the leader North Carolina deserves. So please, give now >> ([link removed])

Honestly, running such a public campaign comes with hardship. The most painful part was the vicious Islamophobia and hatred against my identity.

But even with the cruel comments, I knew running for office was something I had to do – not for status, but to survive.

John, I know my community deserves a front seat in our democracy and I’m fighting to be the voice for all of the Muslim constituents that have been silenced for too long. But I need your help to dismantle the barriers stacked so high against candidates like myself as I run for re-election.

Can you please donate $27 to power my campaign to keep my seat at the table and be the representative for ALL Muslims? >> ([link removed])
