This is Rick Hoye, Chairman of the Broward Democratic Party.  This morning I got some information which I just have to share with you.

We know 2022 wasn’t a great year for Florida Democrats, but we held our own here in Broward. Why? Because democrats had a higher turnout rate than the GOP among people who Voted by Mail and had three times as many voters signed up to Vote by Mail.

The BAD NEWS is the Florida GOP, who are clearly not fans of democracy, passed a law to VOID EVERY VOTE BY MAIL REQUEST in the state. Almost SIX MILLION Floridians had their request to Vote by Mail thrown in the trash. The GOP wanted us to start from scratch, thinking we wouldn’t be able to get the job done.

But I have GREAT NEWS. Laurie Plotnick and the Senior Democratic Caucus came up with a program to text every Democrat over the age of 65 in the County to let them know what the GOP had done and provided them a link to make a new request to Vote by Mail.  

Now on average, 2% of the people who get a political text actually click it. 5% is great, 10% incredible.   BUT IN JUST FIVE DAYS, THIS PROGRAM HAS HIT 60%. Thousands of Democrats have renewed their request to Vote by Mail because of this program. It just shows that Broward Democrats are ready to stand up and be counted. So far, for every $2 spent, three Broward Democrats signed up to Vote by Mail, and every day that number goes higher.

We know Democrats who Vote by Mail turnout at a rate 25 percentage points HIGHER than those who don’t. Any path to victory in Broward starts with VBM and any path to Victory in the Florida starts in Broward.

We need to expand this program immediately to cover all Democrats in Broward County. For $5,604 we can text every remaining Democrat in the county, and sign up more than 10,000 additional Democrats to Vote by Mail. 

While this wasn’t in our budget, these numbers are too good to ignore.
