Message from Rep. Tracey Mann. Having Trouble Viewing? Click Here. Fellow Kansan, Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter! I’m excited to update you on my work in Washington, D.C. and the First District of Kansas. It is an honor to represent Kansans in the Big First District in the 118th Congress. I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America – I serve to fight and work to make it stronger, and I believe our brightest days are yet to come. Yours in service, Mann.House.Gov The Week Ahead This week, the House is voting on two pieces of legislation to protect the American people's right to use gas stoves and fight against President Biden's war on fossil fuels, as well as legislation pushing back on the Biden Administration's costly rules and regulations, and establishing a Special Envoy for the Abraham Accords. You can read more about that legislation below. Additionally, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will debate and vote on the Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act, legislation that will reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and aviation safety and infrastructure programs for the next five years. I am honored to be a leader on this Committee and to have the opportunity to bring the perspectives and priorities of Kansans to the table to be included in this historic piece of legislation. I believe that we need strong leadership at the FAA to maintain an aviation system that supports economic activity, strengthens the supply chain, and helps America remain a global power. For more than a century, the United States has led the world in aviation safety and innovation, but that standard is being threatened by increasing global competition, rapid developments in technology, and industry workforce shortages. This legislation will help us improve critical infrastructure for airports of all sizes, streamline the FAA bureaucracy, strengthen the nation’s general aviation sector, encourage the more rapid deployment of safe technological innovations, address workforce challenges throughout the aviation system, and more. Other committee activity happening this week includes: House Agriculture Subcommittee on Markets, Digital Assets, and Rural Development hearing on stakeholder perspectives on USDA's rural development programs. House Small Business Committee hearing to discuss challenges facing entrepreneurs and small businesses and how to best help them succeed. House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Research, and Biotechnology hearing to review university research, and extension programs. Hutchinson News: Rep. Mann says the Lesser Prairie-Chicken is Biden's next chance to listen to producers Instead of listening to agricultural producers, small business owners, and Congress, President Biden vetoed a bipartisan joint resolution of disapproval on his administration’s flawed and burdensome WOTUS rule. This is inexplicable. President Biden will have another opportunity to listen to producers and Congress, and it will come in the form of the lesser prairie-chicken. I implore President Biden to do the right thing this time. Read My Piece in the Hutchinson News Here. Mann.House.Gov Legislative Update Pushing Back on Costly Biden Administration Rules and Regulations The Biden Administration has been abusing its power by circumventing Congress to impose rules and regulations that serve a progressive agenda. In his first year, President Biden’s regulations added more than $200 billion in new regulatory costs—more than quadruple the costs added during President Obama’s first year. The REINS Act will put an end to that, by forcing the Executive Branch to secure Congress’ approval before any new costly rules go into effect. With our national debt approaching $32 trillion, this bill is part of the House Republican commitment to fiscal responsibility. Click Here to Read More About the REINS Act. Protecting Kansans' Right to Use Gas Stoves President Biden’s war on fossil fuels has reached the kitchens of hardworking Americans. Banning gas cooking appliances in the name of climate activism would only burden American families with high electricity bills and take away consumer choice. Natural gas stoves are currently the preferred cooktop appliance of nearly 40% of American households, natural gas is almost four times more affordable than electricity, and more than 4.1 million American jobs are connected to the natural gas industry. It’s truly astonishing that we even need to have this conversation in the U.S. House of Representatives. President Biden should abandon ideas like this one and get to work on solving the actual problems in our country, like securing the border, bolstering the American workforce, addressing the violent crime surge, and curbing inflation. Mann.House.Gov In the Office Subcommittee Hearing on Amtrak: Examining Challenges, Opportunities for Improving Efficiency Amtrak’s Southwest Chief route runs directly through Kansas, and it is vital to Kansans in the Big First District. Communities rely on this route to connect with other parts of the state and the country. There have been several proposals for the expansion and improvement of this route, but there are also concerns over misuse of funds and waste. During the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hearing last week, I asked Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner if Amtrak is supportive of long-distance passenger rail routes like the Southwest Chief. Watch my full remarks and questions to Amtrak CEO Gardner below: Meeting with Kansas Building and Industry Association Accessing housing has become increasingly difficult for people in Kansas and across the country. This is due, in part, to the industry’s workforce shortage, regulatory burdens, and the surge in material costs. I met with the Kansas Building and Industry Association (KBIA) last week, and I appreciated hearing their thoughts and insights about the issues that they’re facing. I am thankful for their work in making housing more accessible. Mark Your Calendars: Next week, I will spend time with Kansans remotely from my office in Washington, D.C.
