In a forgotten corner of Northern Uganda, unrelenting drought has killed
nearly all the livestock and crops – and with food costs rising, many
worry the worst is yet to come.
8 out of 10 households in Karamoja depend almost entirely on rainwater to
live and farm. Without alternative access to water, there's simply no way
they can remain there and survive.
Our community partner is racing to install solar-powered pumps to bring
clean water to four drought-ravaged districts before this crisis becomes a
catastrophic famine – but they don't have enough funds yet to start.

The number of climate-related droughts has tripled in 30 years. Without
water pumps and irrigation systems in place, it's become nearly impossible
for farmers to grow crops or raise livestock. For most in Karamoja, losing
their livestock and their crops means no income and no food.
Their only option now is to adapt, despite having done the least to cause
this crisis – and they don't have enough support to do it.
Together we can make a big, lasting difference to change that and power a
local movement that goes far beyond emergency aid. Solar power is a free,
renewable energy source and combined with the technology to bring fresh,
clean water to drought-stricken villages it could dramatically improve the
health of everyone in the community and their household income.
