John, the race for CA-47 is heating up.

With so much on the line ahead of this month’s FEC deadline, here’s what you need to know:

CA-47 is the only open Democratic-held seat in California. That’s why the National Republican Campaign Committee has labeled us a top target in 2024. Our likely Republican opponent Scott Baugh only narrowly lost to Katie Porter in 2022. Now, he has the full backing of Kevin McCarthy.

The momentum is on our side. Joanna has locked-in critical endorsements from former Rep. Harley Rouda, Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris, Supervisor Katrina Foley, and more. A recent poll in our race shows Joanna leading in a General Election matchup against Scott Baugh. She’s up 46% - 45%.

CA-47 is essential to taking back our Democratic majority in the House. Our chances of retaking the House drop dramatically if we lose this Orange County seat. The good news is that elections analysts like Dave Wasserman of the Cook Political Report say we can win if, “Democrats coalesce around Weiss.” (LA Times, 5/4/23)
