Hi friend,

We must scale up our clean energy if we're going to tackle the climate crisis in Pennsylvania – and solar is a big piece to that puzzle!

Fortunately, schools all across the Commonwealth have rooftops that could be used to generate electricity and help clean our air.

There’s a new bill that would create a Solar for Schools Grant program, which would give our schools the resources to invest in solar projects NOW and save school districts (and taxpayers!) thousands in energy costs. This bill is gaining a ton of traction and has broad support from many sectors, but passing any kind of pro-environment, pro-worker, or pro-school policies in our divided legislature is tough. We really need constituents from every district to weigh in. Reach out to your lawmaker now and tell them to invest in our schools’ futures: [link removed]

The Solar for Schools grants – alongside opportunities from the Inflation Reduction Act and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act – will fund solar energy assessments at schools and help pay for installation and equipment for a solar energy system.

Considering volatile global energy markets, rising electricity prices, and the increasing pace of climate-related catastrophes, solar installations provide financial stability to school districts, enabling them to spend more on student learning.

Since dirty energy pollution disproportionately affects environmental justice communities, utilizing renewable energy technologies such as solar can reduce emissions and combat public health disparities. As a result, schools in environmental justice areas are also in need of extensive repairs and retrofitting to ensure a safe learning environment for students. Through Solar for Schools, schools are able to reduce their energy costs and divert funds to areas that require improvement.

Pennsylvania schools and community colleges can use onsite solar projects to provide students with hands-on job training for fast-growing careers and real-world, STEM education. The Solar for Schools grants will enable schools to develop new clean energy projects that support student learning, build a pipeline of needed solar workers, and create local jobs to support solar infrastructure all throughout the Commonwealth!

By taking part in the Solar for Schools Grant Program, our school buildings could become clean energy producers while creating good-paying, clean-energy union jobs. But first, we need to get this law passed as is with no amendments, and we can’t make that happen in our divided legislature without you. Reach out to you lawmaker now: [link removed]
