John,
You could say I have a reputation.
From defending the historic dam removal process on the Klamath River, to winning permanent protection for the Stornetta Public Lands National Monument on the Mendocino Coast and working with the Department of Interior to acknowledge downstream water rights to protect flows and salmon on the Trinity River –
I’m known in Congress for being the member whose top priorities are protecting our environment and taking action on climate change.
Big environmental victories often take years of persistent work. That’s why it should come as no surprise that I’ve re-introduced my flagship public lands bill, the Northwest California Wilderness, Recreation and Working Forests Act, which will permanently protect over 250,000 acres of pristine federal wilderness and similarly protect 480 miles of Wild and Scenic River areas in Northern California.
Last week,
The Press Democrat editorial board endorsed the work I’ve done to protect these precious public resources – I ask that you do the same.

In addition to wilderness protections, this legislation will help restore degraded forest lands, protect key salmon watersheds, increase fire resilience, and expand recreation opportunities.
By implementing the Northwest California Wilderness, Recreation, and Working Forests Act we can strike a balance between conservation and human needs – and make it possible to protect our natural treasures, provide opportunities for outdoor recreation, and sustainably manage working forest lands for the benefit of present and future generations.
I have no doubt that this bill will have an enormous environmental and economic impact if we can get it to the President’s desk. And we’ve come close the past few years!
In previous sessions, we advanced the bill out of the House with bipartisan support (no small feat in a deeply divided Congress) only to come up short in the Senate. Now it’s time to finish the job.
To ensure that we can finally take action to protect our public lands, I need your support. Will you join the The Press Democrat in endorsing this effort by adding your name today?
Together, we can make a real difference in preserving our environment and securing a bright future for our communities.
Thank you,
Jared
