John, massive wildfires in Alberta, Canada brought early-season smoke to the West last month. And last week, fires in Québec, Canada brought smoke season — with its eerie orange skies — to the East, where millions of people breathed unhealthy air.

Wildfire smoke has been linked to a range of negative health outcomes — like asthma, increased rates of heart attacks and even death. Children, pregnant people, and those with heart disease or respiratory conditions are especially vulnerable to wildfire smoke.
