June is National Dairy Month: 5 Moo-velous Reasons to Celebrate!
By 1939, June officially became 'Dairy Month' and is still celebrated today. Did you know that the national celebration was originally a way to distribute extra milk during the warm summer months?
1.) The U.S. dairy production and processing industry accounts for over 900,000 jobs in our country.
2.) The value of all milk products sold from U.S. dairy farms is nearly $37.2 billion.
3.) 97% of U.S. dairy farms are family owned and operated!
4.) Most Americans live within 100 miles of a dairy farm!
5.) Nearly every family in America had its own cow up until the 1850's.
In the spirit of celebrating Dairy Month, we recognize the significant impact our dairy farmers have on the rural economy. Why should that matter to you? As an I Make America supporter, you can learn about legislation, like the upcoming Farm Bill, that rural America relies on, and make sure Congress knows why it's important!
The Farm Bill is a multi-year law led by the U.S. Department of Agriculture that is re-evaluated approximately every 5 years. First created to help struggling farmers in the 1930s, the farm bill has expanded to be a resource to help the industry grow and thrive in an ever-evolving world. To prepare for the 2023 Farm Bill, discussions about how best to address the issues of agriculture have already begun.
Two components of the Farm Bill are up for discussion, among many others - the PAL and PRECISE Acts.
The PAL Act establishes the first ever Precision Agriculture Loan program - which gives producers who don't have access to traditional lending options the opportunity to implement new technologies.
The PRECISE Act expands the definition of conservation practices and allows producers to access conservational loans to finance new technologies.
I Make America and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers are watching intensely to see if these two pieces of important legislation will be incorporated into the Farm Bill.
