All hands on deck!  2,400 UAW 4121 Postdocs and Research Scientists/Engineers are striking for fair contracts at the University of Washington. Throughout the contract bargaining process, UW has engaged in draconian union-busting tactics. What's more it continues to pay many of its workers 30 percent below the national average! All while inflation and rent have skyrocketed.

UW workers are fighting for:

  1. Support for an inclusive workforce: Postdocs and Research Scientists and Engineers deserve fair agreements that include better support for parents and caregivers; and the same harassment prevention program for RSEs that is available for Postdocs and student employees.

  2. Play by the rules: UW has committed multiple unfair labor practices and has been trying to evade the law establishing fair wages for salaried workers in Washington state. It’s time to bargain in good faith and reach fair agreements.

  3. Fair Compensation: Many UW workers are struggling to make ends meet. According to UW's own study, research scientists and engineers are the furthest behind market wages of any professional staff. Postdocs are also behind as well with the University attempting to weasel its way out Washington's minimum salary laws.

Not content with merely robbing its workers of a fair wage, UW sells its students out by privatizing several major student housing developments, whittling away at any remnants of affordable housing in this city.

Meanwhile,  UW’s President makes a humble salary of $842,000 to go with the President's mansion. And to its top ten highest paid ‘employees’ (aka bosses) who make a whopping combined total of $12 million. And of course to build up UW’s financial empire represented by the $8 billion overseen by the University’s very own Investment Management Company.

In response to the stalling, the disrespect, the profiteering, and unfair labor practices UAW 4121 Postdocs and Research Scientists/Engineers have voted to go on strike starting June 7th!

🔥Would you like to transfer $45 million EVERY YEAR from some of the most rapacious corporations to the most exploited workers in Renton?🔥

Come join us for a big signature push this weekend to qualify our $19/hr minimum wage initiative for the ballot!  This would be a huge win for the working class and the socialist movement, but we're approaching our deadline, and we are still short on the number of signatures we need.

If we can get Raise the Wage Renton on the ballot, we have a high likelihood of winning.

But we are certain to lose if we don’t get on the ballot -
sign up today to help gather the signatures to get on the ballot! We have a fighting chance if you sign up for a shift!

We will use this Mother’s Day weekend to show support for those who choose to be Mothers and those that do not! Parent by choice, not by chance!

Where are we meeting? – We are defending the Lee Minto Planned Parenthood Center at 2001 E. Madison Street, Seattle. Meet at the bus stop outside the clinic.

🎉 Seattle DSA’s next social will be in RENTON! 🎉

Sunday, June 25, 4-7pm

Whistle Stop Ale House

RSVP

We think it’s important to have some time to just simply get to know each other, connect over food and drinks, and have fun together -- that’s what this social is for! No big speeches, no business, just time to connect with other leftists. NEW MEMBERS / POTENTIAL MEMBERS ARE VERY WELCOME AT THESE EVENTS!

RSVP so we have a rough idea of how many people to expect. Feel free to bring a friend!

Also, RTWR needs all the help we can get to obtain enough signatures to put this on the ballot. We can change life for thousands of low income people in Renton — but only if we get the signatures!
