Key points for a fiscal pact in Latin America and the Caribbean

Global Alliance for Tax Justice (GATJ)'s regional network Red de Justicia Fiscal de América Latina y el Caribe (RJFALC) – together with Latindadd and other members and partners – joined academics and other representatives of civil society organisations on 2 and 3 May, in Bogotá (Colombia), to discuss ways forward to an inclusive, sustainable and equitable taxation in the region.

Highlights from GATJ members

LATIN AMERICA
In May, a delegation of Red de Justicia Fiscal de América Latina y el Caribe (RJFALC) and Latindadd joined the XXXV Regional Fiscal Policy Seminar promoted by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). RJFALC also joined an initiative of Asociación Civil por la Igualdad y la Justicia (ACIJ) and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) to debunk myths involving fiscal policies in Argentina.

AFRICA
Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA) released a report calling for a more sustainable and equitable tax system in Zambia's mining industry. The network also led a series of meetings in Johannesburg (South Africa) on the enhancement of its anti-illicit financial flows policy tracker

ASIA

Asian People’s Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) had their first full reunion after the pandemic on the “Asian Finance Conference: Finance for Reparations, Justice, Equity and Systems Change”Tax and Fiscal Justice Asia (TAFJA) participated talking about wealth taxes and the need for a UN Tax Convention.

NORTH AMERICA
Canadians for Tax Fairness demonstrated how a wealth tax in Canada could help finance social programs and better the lives of the country's entire population.
FACT Coalition
shared evidence that investors representing $10 trilion in funds are calling for greater tax transparency from multinational companies.

EUROPE
Eurodad co-hosted with partners the webinar "Rebranding or reshaping the global financial architecture?", in which panellists raised concerns about three major proposals to reform the global financial architecture and shared recommendations.
