Jack, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who is pretending to run for president as a "Democrat," has a new best friend–Elon Musk, because of course those two were made for each other. Last week, they spent two hours on a Twitter chat, and I don't even know where to start to unpack all this nonsense.

The entire session was riddled with unchecked conspiracy theories, disinformation and misinformation that felt more like a far-right online chat room than a serious platform.

He blamed the pharmaceutical industry for the epidemic of mass shootings in the country, saying "Prior to the introduction of Prozac, we had almost none of these events in our country and we’ve never seen them in human history, where people walk into a schoolroom of children or strangers and start shooting people"
Kennedy called on the U.S. government to "consider" Putin's war on Ukraine from Russia's perspective
He claimed that COVID is "clearly a bioweapons problem" even though there is no support to this
And he announced a trip to the southern border to "try to formulate policies that will seal the border permanently"

Kennedy doesn't shy away from quack conspiracy theories and lies (like Daily Kos is controlled by the CIA).

The pandemic gave the rabid anti-vaxxer a new, hungry audience for his lies. A study by The Center for Countering Digital Hate (PDF) found that just a dozen people are responsible for 65% of the COVID-19 disinformation being spread on social media platforms, and that Kennedy and his organization, Children's Health Defense, were the second biggest offenders.

Daily Kos is one of the largest progressive news outlets in the country, but we need to be much, much bigger in order to more effectively debunk right-wing lies coming from the right and now those coming from this supposedly-Democratic presidential candidate.

Daily Kos is now in the second year of defending ourselves from Kennedy's frivolous lawsuit to protect the privacy of our community and our First Amendment rights. We are now awaiting an appeal and we expect expenses for this fight to increase significantly again once the next phase begins.

We refuse to back down from Kennedy's bullying, but unfortunately, two of our major revenue streams have been falling behind our projections. Meanwhile, Kennedy has a major family fortune and billionaires like Elon Musk on which he can draw.
