Hey John,
******************

The last sitting weeks before the winter break.

A message from Jacqui Lambie

Working hard

In the Senate we make Legislation better.

Unlike the House of Reps, in The Senate we are about examining
the legislation in detail – we look for unintended consequences
and then solutions to plug any holes…

This is often challenging for me and my staff – often we don’t
get the Leg until 48 hours before we sit – sometimes it’s 24
hours.

By the way both of the major parties do this – on purpose!

I guess they figure the less time we have - the more we are
likely to miss.

Personally, I feel this is incredibly disrespectful to the
Australian people –

You elected us to do our jobs and carefully go through Bills that
will change the lives of Australians, and in some cases make
their lives more difficult.

Being in the balance of power is a huge responsibility – one that
Tammy and I take very seriously.

It why my staff and I often clock up 16-hour days when parliament
is sitting.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining – It is an honour to do
it.

And having crossbenchers in the balance of power – I believe is
better for the nation.

Without us the Senate Chambers goes from a house of review to a
rubber stamp.

The last Senate Estimates exposed on going issues around the use
of consultants, the lack of transparency around senior
appointments and reinforced again the critical role of the Senate
– holding everyone in this place accountable.

Onwards!

And don't forget about our petition against the proposed Hobart

There's still time to add your name to the thousands of people
who want the Premier to walk away from the stadium.

All my love,

Jacqui!
