Vol. 118, Issue #21
Dear Friends/Amigos,

This week I was back in Washington advocating for all my constituents in the halls of Congress.

Miami is solidifying itself as the beating heart of American liberty, both in our own country and abroad. Our community is vibrant and world-renowned for its lively, outgoing character. This image should not only be reflected in our culture, but in our politics as well.

The Biden Administration is continuing to wage its war on the freedoms Miami cherishes abroad, and I questioned several of his State Department officials on why they have antagonized our allies in Latin America while rolling out the red carpet for our enemies in a hearing this week.

The bipartisan legislation I am sponsoring in Congress stands in complete contrast to the Biden Administration's antagonism to liberty. Know that I will always defend what makes Miami unique every day as your Congresswoman.

It is an honor to serve you in Congress, and please continue to call my office or visit my website to share your thoughts with me.

As always, I invite you to connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, to get the latest from Washington and from across our district.

Sincerely/Atentamente,

María Elvira Salazar
U.S. Representative (FL-27)
QUESTIONING THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION'S VINDICTIVE LATIN AMERICA POLICY
This week, I was honored to chair a hearing in the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee on the House Foreign Affairs Committee detailing the failures of the Biden Administration's vindictive Latin America policy.

I asked several officials from the State Department and other foreign policy agencies on why they continuously slander our allies and critical partners in Latin America while presenting an excessively accommodating attitude towards the enemies of liberty in power in Havana, Caracas, and Managua.

To nobody's surprise, neither I nor my colleagues received adequate answers. America should be focused on working with our partners and allies in Latin America instead of finding ways to antagonize them!

PROMOTING MIAMI AS A CENTER OF LIBERTY AND HUMAN RIGHTS ON THE WORLD STAGE
In contrast to the Biden Administration's reliance on top-down government interference, I was proud to bring forth legislation that would promote free trade, human rights, and respect for the Rule of Law.

To promote economic liberty, I co-introduced legislation to codify the Chilean Tax Treaty. The Chilean Tax Treaty was a landmark deal that was brokered between the U.S. and Chile to protect American investments from inefficient taxation. Chile is a growing trading partner of the United States, and directly impacts Miami as the Gateway to the Americas.

I also co-led a resolution to condemn the Chinese Communist Party's human rights abuses towards the Uyghur people in the Xinjiang region of China. As China gains a foothold in Latin America, our government officials should recognize what a disaster it would be for our neighbors if the CCP introduces true oppression like what the Uyghurs face in our own hemisphere!
