John, I need to be clear about something:

We are facing the most coordinated, sustained backlash to LGTBQ equality in our lifetimes.

Last week in my district in Glendale, California, a routine school board meeting turned violent when an anti-LGBTQ mob rioted outside of the school.

These continued acts of violence and hate toward our LGBTQ community — especially toward students, parents, and teachers — are horrific.

All of our children deserve to feel safe and be safe regardless of who they love or how they identify. The coordinated legislative maneuvers and outright violent attacks to threaten and intimidate transgender children and their parents in particular are unconscionable.

We will not go back. We will not apologize for celebrating the strength and diversity of our LGBTQ community.

I’m an original cosponsor of the Equality Act, and in the Senate, I’ll vote to abolish the filibuster so we can pass it with a simple majority once and for all.

Add your name and join me as a citizen cosponsor of the Equality Act to say: We won’t go back, and we will fight like hell to defend the LGBTQ community from violence, intimidation, and outright discrimination no matter what.

This is a matter of principle. This Pride month, it is each of our responsibility to stand with our LGTBQ community and keep moving forward until we have achieved the true equality that is the birthright of every person in our country.
