The Senate is holding a hearing on judicial ethics next week–and holding Harlan Crow’s feet to the fire on his secret gifts for Justice Thomas.
The public deserves clarity, accountability and real reform. That’s what CREW is fighting for, and we need your help.

John,
Remember when Clarence Thomas received lavish gifts and vacations from Harlan Crow, and his wife accepted payments from Leonard Leo — both without disclosure?
They compromised public trust in the integrity of the Supreme Court and its decisions. 3
We’re preparing to testify next week for a Senate hearing on judicial ethics. Here’s a preview of what we’re planning to say: The public needs real answers about the gifts that Crow gave Thomas and why they weren’t disclosed. And more than that, the public needs assurances that this kind of scandal won’t happen again. The only way to do that is to put in place a binding code of conduct for the court, a transparent and independent recusal process, and to empower an inspector general for the judiciary.
Clarence Thomas would probably love it if everyone forgot about his scandals, but we’re not going to forget.
We're going to keep fighting for accountability. We’re going to keep calling for Clarence Thomas to resign for as long as it takes to restore integrity to the Supreme Court. Donate today to help CREW fight to hold Clarence Thomas accountable → [[link removed]]

To make matters worse, the access to Thomas made possible by the luxury travel and lavish gifts raises questions about influence on his decisions. In fact, Thomas recently changed his position on one of America’s most significant regulatory doctrines. Here’s the timeline: [[link removed]]
1. Thomas writes an opinion upholding Chevron doctrine.
2. Clarence and Ginni Thomas accept gifts and payments from Harlan Crow and Leonard Leo.
3. The conservative legal movement bankrolled by Crow and Leo pushes to overturn the doctrine.
4. Thomas reverses his position.
Regardless of whether or not the gifts prompted Thomas to change his mind, this timeline does not look good, and it undermines the legitimacy of the Supreme Court. This has to end. Clarence Thomas must resign. And we must implement reforms so that it can never happen again.
