Brian Kemp has solidified his legacy as the Voter Suppressor in Chief.

In his tenure as Secretary of State and Governor of Georgia, Brian Kemp’s egregious agenda has severely restricted access to the ballot box, serving as a playbook for other GOP leaders who are scheming to do the same. His goal is clear: Maintain GOP power and reverse progress by silencing Georgians’ voices — especially Black, brown, and young voters. In his latest attempt to diminish our democracy, he signed legislation to allow Republican takeovers of county Boards of Elections, removing democratically appointed members.

Let’s take a look at just a handful of Brian Kemp’s worst offenses as the Voter Suppressor in Chief. Then, if you’re able, please chip in any amount to support Fair Fight and help stop his future attacks in Georgia. [[link removed]]

As Secretary of State from 2010 to 2018, Brian Kemp:

❌ Said he was concerned with Democrats “registering all these minority voters;”

❌ Investigated a Black city commissioner who assisted a first-time voter in understanding how to use voting machines;

❌ Oversaw canceling more than 1.4 million voter registrations;

❌ Put 53,000 voter registrations on hold before the 2018 election, nearly 70% of which were Black voters;

❌ Advised counties on how to close precincts and polling places, resulting in Georgia counties closing a total of 214 polling locations — a higher percentage closed than in any other state.

As Governor of Georgia from 2019 to today, Brian Kemp:

❌ Signed SB 202, after expressing that he was “frustrated” with Democrats’ wins in the 2020 election. It has imposed burdensome voter ID requirements, criminalized handing out food and water to voters in line, permitted mass voter challenges, placed unnecessary limits on ballot drop boxes, and given Republican legislators the power to take over county Boards of Elections;

❌ Signed SB 441 to allow the Georgia Bureau of Investigations to investigate allegations of voter fraud and election crimes, feeding into Donald Trump’s false claim that the 2020 election was stolen;

❌ Signed SB 222, which criminalized hardworking elections officials and denied them necessary funds for our elections;

❌ Signed SB 92, which created a state commission to target and remove democratically elected district attorneys;

❌ Signed three pieces of legislation in 2023 alone aimed at taking over county Boards of Elections — removing lawfully appointed Black members and Democrats from their ranks. This includes HB 422, which allowed the Republican-led Ware County Commission to remove a Black Democrat from the Board of Elections and appoint a majority white board of elections.

As Georgia continues to play a critical role in the national political landscape as a battleground state, and as Democrats continue to win big in Georgia elections, we can expect that Brian Kemp’s voter suppression attempts will only intensify.

Fair Fight is laser-focused on mitigating the impacts of Brian Kemp’s assaults on our democracy, and that means building a full-scale organizing effort ahead of the 2024 election cycle. We’re gearing up to fight back against his future anti-voter attacks — ensuring all eligible voters can access the ballot box freely and fairly and helping elect pro-democracy champions up and down the ballot. And that’s why we’re asking you to help keep our efforts going strong.
