John - the list of MAGA candidates throwing their hats in the
ring for the Republican presidential nomination continues to grow by the
day...and what do they all have in common? They ALL share Trump's policy
ideologies.
Policies like privatizing Social Security and Medicare. Policy positions
on doing away with Medicaid entirely.
To them, protecting the most vulnerable among us has never been a
priority. They believe in a world of haves and have-nots, and in their
world, if you are not wealthy or privileged, it is because you chose not
to be. Republicans believe that racism simply does not exist in America,
so no proof of economic injustice towards marginalized communities has
them batting an eye.
John, you and I know that is all nonsense. Right now in
America, people are struggling.
I was getting a haircut last night and was talking to my barber. As a
Syrian-American, one of the things we hold onto is our haircuts. The
barbershop is a tradition; you get your beard done, they serve you coffee,
and you talk politics, sports, or whatever on the news of the day. So, my
barber was telling me his story: he rents a small two-bedroom apartment
with his two kids, but the rent went up 40% this year. He gets one day off
a week and spends that day taking his kids to do something fun. Lately, he
has struggled to find an activity that fits his budget. And he said
something to me that I have not been able to forget:
"America used to be this place of opportunity, you work hard, and you will
succeed. Lately, no matter how hard you work, you just can't afford to
even enjoy a meal with your family. You go to the grocery store, and you
have to start rationing the meat you used to buy now because everything is
just so expensive."
He's not wrong; in our political discourse, we sometimes forget why we
fight so hard. I go to work every day so that we can get folks elected
that will enact policies that will make it just a little bit easier for
hard-working folks like my barber to provide for his family.
One of the reasons why we at No Dem Left Behind are so confident in
supporting President Biden is that we believe in his vision for America.
The infrastructure legislation is a slow implementation process, but it is
making an impact. Those are the types of challenges that the President has
confronted. We owe our citizens a chance to rebuild, and we need to ensure
these projects do not get stalled by a group of power-hungry MAGA
Republicans.
The Presidency is so important. We are 18 months out, and we are not going
to take a day off from reminding all Americans about the progress
President Biden and the Democrats are making to better the lives of
everyone. If this is a campaign you can get behind, we would really
appreciate your support.
