The past decade-and-a-half has been a low-key news media apocalypse—more than a quarter of all news jobs have been lost since 2008, including more than half of all newspaper positions. Daily Kos has survived the storm, but we are not immune to the forces bearing down on us.

Daily Kos has three major sources of revenue—advertising, list building (in which Democratic campaigns pay for us to offer our readers connections to candidates for office), and donations from our readers and activists. This diversification is what got us through the 2010s unscathed, but so far this year, the first two of those revenue streams have fallen short of our projections.
